10 Hidden Things We Discovered From the Borderlands 3 E3 2019 Demo

I had two hours to kill at E3 (yes, believe it or not) and since the South African PR for 2K Games did not reach out to arrange hands-on time with Borderlands 3 at E3 2019, I decided to use that time to stand in a very, very long line of people to try out the game. I had no idea how much secret sauce the demo would feature to the point where I discovered new tidbits about the upcoming game.

Beyond the usual gameplay session, which was fantastic by the way, Borderlands 3’s hidden details were scattered throughout the little mechanics I had no idea existed until I got my hands on the game (and also the pre-demo presentation). Take a look at a few things I learnt while playing Borderlands 3 at E3.

Borderlands 3 New Details

  1. The game features a new multiplayer menu (similar to Destiny) where you can join a friend’s world and leave it seamlessly. It is here where you can invite friends, see what missions they are doing and jump into their game.
  2. Emotes will be added to the customization system alongside heads, and other customizable body parts.
  3. You can equip shaders onto your character that change the colour of your appearance. These can also be saved as pre-sets and shared so you can easily apply a selection of paint to your character on the go.
  4. When you obtain a weapon skin it can be applied across all weapons. These skins come in different forms such as paint jobs, decals and even dipped gold shades.
  5. When you sell a weapon in your game, it will appear in vendors in your friend’s game even if you have yet to play co-op with them. These weapons will clearly show that it belonged to “xyz” friend.
  6. Dynamic missions will keep you busy throughout your Borderlands 3 campaign. These “bounty-like” quests will pop up dynamically and task you to take down specially named enemies for a chance of rare loot. When a “Rare Spawn” enemy appears in your game and you kill it, a quest will be given to your friends to take down the same enemy in their game.
  7. You can send weapons to your friends via a mailbox system even if they are offline. This means you can gift them new gear even if they are not actively playing the game at that time.
  8. The map will need to be revealed in Borderlands 3 as you explore the world around you.
  9. Each planet features a full day and night cycle.
  10. New planets were revealed during the presentation such as Eden 6, the home of the Jakobs corporation. The presentation showed off houses and the dense swampland.

So there you have 10 new things about Borderlands 3 I learnt at E3 2019. Check out 25 more gameplay details here. The game no doubt had the best showing at the expo this year and even its stand was just fantastic. Check out some pics from the stand here.

Borderlands 3 releases on 13 September 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
