2024 is wrapping up and that means we have another year of exciting releases to look forward to. 2025 is shaping up to be an incredible year for gaming, especially considering some of the lows of this year. With heavy-hitters like Monster Hunter Wilds and Grand Theft Auto 6 locked and loaded along with other anticipated releases like Ghost of Yotei and Fable (not to mention the arrival of Nintendo’s next console), there’s a lot to digest. We’ve put together a list of 10 highly anticipated video games releasing in 2025 (that we know of so far).
Before we dive in, we’ve got a few honourable mentions: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Borderlands 4 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Note that the list below isn’t in any particular order.
10 Highly Anticipated Games Releasing in 2025
Grand Theft Auto 6
The hype for Grand Theft Auto 6 is unprecedented – primed to become one of the defining video game releases of the generation. Rockstar Games has been quietly cooking all these years and we can’t wait to see some gameplay. As luck would have it, we probably won’t have to wait too long for that. Take-Two Interactive says GTA 6 is still on track to release in fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Monster Hunter Wilds
The successor to 2018’s Monster Hunter World (which currently ranks as Capcom’s best-selling game ever, by the way), Monster Hunter Wilds is going big in more ways than just the map scale and the size of the monsters. Everything we’ve seen about the game has shown plenty of promise and judging by the beta, it’s doing everything right. Monster Hunter Wilds launches on 28 February 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Ghost of Yotei
The follow-up to 2020’s hit PlayStation exclusive Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei isn’t necessarily connected narratively to its predecessor. Instead, it will tell a new story with a new protagonist in a different historical setting and period in Japan. Sony has only listed a vague 2025 release window for the game so we’ll have to sit tight and wait for more information.
DOOM: The Dark Ages
How do up the metal on something as heavy metal as DOOM? Going medieval, of course. At least that’s what DOOM: The Dark Ages promises, a follow-up to 2020’s killer DOOM Eternal from developer id Software. If the chainsaw shield didn’t already sell you, then the next bit of news will: despite id Software being bought out by Microsoft, the game will release day-and-date on PS5 alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC sometime in 2025.
Avowed
Obsidian Entertainment, the respected developer behind Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, don’t really miss when it comes to densely packed, meaningful role-playing experiences. Avowed looks to be a phenomenal fantasy action-RPG with heavy inspiration taken from Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls series. Avowed slots into a very busy February next year when it launches on 18 February for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
After a very long wait and some development hiccups, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally upon us. Nintendo promises a 2025 release window which got fans speculating that it might launch on the Switch as well as the Switch successor as a cross-gen title. We’ve never been more excited for the return of Samus.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A
On the subject of big Nintendo releases to keep an eye on in 2025, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the next spin-off in the Legends series from Game Freak, is also set to arrive sometime next year. If Pokemon Legends: Arceus is any indication, we might be getting a Pokemon release that moves the franchise forward in terms of inventive gameplay ideas. We’ll have to wait and see if Game Freak nails the execution.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
A new Hideo Kojima game is enough of a reason to be excited for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach but it’s a sequel to 2019’s excellent and weirdly unique Death Stranding, which means we can probably expect more weird greatness. The sequel will also feature a new cast alongside returning, familiar Hollywood faces. It’s currently expected to release in 2025 exclusively for PS5.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows
If Ghost of Yotei won’t be enough feudal Japan, then fans can also look forward to Assassin’s Creed Shadows next year. Ubisoft delayed the game from its original October 2024 date to 14 February 2025 for more polishing time. It’s the first major Assassin’s Creed game since 2020’s Valhalla so we’re expecting great things out of Ubisoft’s take on historical Japan.
Fable
Last but not least is the Fable reboot from Forza Horizon developer Playground Games. It seems like we’ve heard more about the game’s development roadblocks than we’ve seen any actual gameplay or trailers. However, we have faith that this will turn out to be one of the biggest surprises of 2025 when it launches on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
