2K Games Will Reveal Sequel to ‘One of Its Biggest Franchises’ at Summer Game Fest

2K Games says it plans on unveiling the “next iteration in one of its biggest and most beloved franchises” at Summer Game Fest 2024 taking place on 7 June. The publisher has several well-known franchises than can fit the bill, though most fans believe it will either be one of three 4’s: Borderlands 4, BioShock 4 or Mafia 4.

If previous reports are accurate, then 2K’s mystery game could be any one of those titles. We know that Borderlands 4 was basically confirmed by developer Gearbox Software when Take-Two Interactive acquired the studio in March. Rumours have been rampant about the next BioShock game over the last five years, so now might be a good time to blow the lid open on the long-awaited project. Meanwhile, Mafia 4 reportedly entered its pre-production stages last year.

Summer Game Fest 2024 looks like it will be stacked with developers and publishers this year. Host Geoff Keighley recently confirmed a lineup of over 55 partners attending this year’s event including PlayStation, Xbox, WB Games, Ubisoft, Sega and of course, 2K Games among others.

In related news, parent company Take-Two Interactive revealed that the highly anticipated GTA 6 will release in fall 2025, pinning its release somewhere between September-November of next year.

Outside of Summer Game Fest happening on 7 June, fans can also look forward to the Xbox Games Showcase – which unites Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard – on 9 June as well as the next Ubisoft Forward on 10 June, where the company will likely offer a closer look at the newly-revealed Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws.

Whether it’s Borderlands, BioShock or Mafia, we’re excited to see what’s next in every franchise. Personally, we really hope it’s the next BioShock.
