The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Everyone and their goldfish has probably played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by now, but don’t let that distract you from its predecessor, the excellent The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Back before Bethesda Game Studios were promising dragons, enormous open-worlds and diverse dungeons, there was this little RPG that fans still believe has the best story in the entire franchise – and we think so too. Morrowind is a classic, and even if it’s a little dated in some areas, the experience overall is unforgettable.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
One of the more recent entries onto Xbox Game Pass, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a fantastic remastering of the original Commander Shepard-based Mass Effect trilogy. The work BioWare put into this remastered package is nothing short of phenomenal, giving new life to the admittedly outdated first game while enhancing the bigger and better sequels. Whether you’re a newcomer or a veteran, it’s time you play Mass Effect all over again. You know that Renegade playthrough awaits.
The Outer Worlds
Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds flew under radars when it released in 2019, but now that it’s available on Game Pass, there’s nothing stopping you from experiencing one of the funniest games of the last ten years. Thanks to spot-on writing with a witty sense of humour, The Outer Worlds succeeds as a gripping RPG packed with layers of choices and consequences perfectly balanced with its trademark comedy. At around 12 hours, it’s not a very long detour either.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
In the mood for some old-school Final Fantasy? Look no further than Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, one of the best attempts at a remaster that Square Enix has ever delivered. The bundle packages both the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy X and its lesser-acclaimed follow-up Final Fantasy X-2 in one definitive remaster. The story remains one of the best in all of Final Fantasy, and the characters are just as likable as they are questionably awkward at times.
Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler goes further back in time to deliver a blast of old-school JRPG nostalgia. The visuals and art style are top-notch with some of the most beautiful scenery ever put in an “HD-2D” game. Originally released on the Nintendo Switch back in 2018, the game finally found its way to Xbox platforms last year and landed on Game Pass. Thanks to the aforementioned visuals, intuitive turn-based gameplay and gripping story, Octopath Traveler is a hidden gem and a must-play.
