5 things you didn’t know about Monster Hunter: World multiplayer

Monster Hunter: World is just over a week away from launch and there is no doubt a lot of hype around the game. It is one of our top 20 games of 2018 to look out for and right now I cannot wait any longer. With two betas taking place already and one more starting this weekend, players have already had a taste of what is to come when the game launches on PS4 and Xbox One on 26 January 2018. Having said that, the game’s multiplayer is probably the biggest feature, which lets you grab some friends and head out on quests together. Even after the beta, there were some things I was not sure of and now I can finally clear things up. Monster Hunter: World multiplayer

Before we begin it is important to know that Monster Hunter: World’s multiplayer is great so far. After playing through the beta a few dozen times there is no doubt that this is going to be the game that my bestest gaming friends and I invest hundreds of hours into. The game lets you team up with three other players on every mission making it a complete team of four.

1. Monster Hunter: World is Single Player too

Don’t get it twisted, although the game is focusing on its multiplayer aspects quite heavily in trailers and such, it actually is fully playable in single player too with no internet connection required. While I do recommend you grab some friends when you experience the game, at least you can play it alone and offline even making Monster Hunter: World a game for everyone regardless of if they have a great net connection or not.

2. Multiplayer will be harder

While it is best to play with your friends, the game will scale its difficulty depending on you playing solo or online. It will also be harder if you are playing with a full band of friends in a complete four-player group.  It is also important to note that once the missions start the difficulty is set and if someone leaves (or rage quits) it will not go down. You will then have to pick up the weight for that afk player. Some may see it as an opportunity to test themselves while others may run for the hills in Monster: Hunter World multiplayer.

3. Quest progress carries over from both modes.

Whether you are playing single player or online, your progress from both modes plays as one experience. This means you will not have to complete a hunt twice just because you did it once with a friend. Items you gather and monsters you slay will all go towards your career and there are no limitations to your progress. You can do five quests with friends, head offline and do another five and then your friends can join you for your next quests without worrying about what you completed, when and how. Monster Hunter: World multiplayer.

4. No, you won’t need to use the code to invite friends

One of the biggest issues I had with the beta was that every time I wanted to invite a friend to my game I had to give them this long code to enter in order to join my lobby. The final version of the game will introduce squads that will allow up to 50 players to join. Think of it as a clan where everyone you play with can be part of this group of hunters. You can also join up to eight squads at any time too, making the matchmaking opportunities endless. These squads will allow you to quickly send invites to your fellow hunters by simply pressing a button. Squads will also let you see what other players are doing and even request for help if you are stuck on a specific mission.

5. There will be a social hub

What is a massive online game without a place to run around while you are talking the biggest load of rubbish over a chat? Dubbed as the Gathering Hub, this social place will be where hunters, well, gather. It will be here where you and your friends can walk around, chat, and plan the hunt ahead. You can also arm wrestle in a fun mini-game if you are in the mood. In general, it will act as a place for you and your team to be together before the hunt. Think of it as a mission briefing but with arm wrestling.

So there you have it. Five things you need to know about Monster: Hunter World multiplayer.
