Final Fantasy 9 Remake Yoshi-P Square Enix

A Final Fantasy 9 Remake Would Need Many Games Says Yoshi-P

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida says that a Final Fantasy 9 remake wouldn’t be possible as a single title and might need several games to fully adapt. This is similar to the ongoing Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy at Square Enix, which aims to adapt the original Final Fantasy VII over three massive games. Two games in that remake trilogy have been released so far.

Speaking in an interview with Video Games, Yoshi-P talked a bit about which entries in the series he’d personally like to remake if given the chance. “Oh man, that’s a super tough question,” he said. “The one that I would like to make myself would be Final Fantasy 3, I think.”

Yoshi-P later goes on to add Final Fantasy 9 to his list of dream remakes, though also considers the game’s scope and scale as being too ambitious to properly adapt into just a single title:

“Of course, I do know there are requests for Final Fantasy 9 to be made, but when you think about Final Fantasy 9, it’s a game with huge volume. When you think about all of that volume, I wonder if it’s possible to remake that as a single title. It’s a difficult one. It is a tough question.”

Final Fantasy 9 released in 2000 for the original PlayStation and quickly became one of the most beloved entries in the franchise due to its memorable characters, setting and story. There’s been an increasingly high demand from fans to remake the game – something that, according to previous reports, is quietly happening at Square Enix but it might not be as ambitious as the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. No announcement has been made yet on this long-rumoured remake.

Of course, we can’t forget the infamous NVIDIA Now leak from back in 2022 that listed several unannounced projects currently in development at various studios – one of which was a Final Fantasy 9 remake. It’s only a matter of time before Square Enix makes the announcement.
