John Wick AAA Video Game Lionsgate

AAA John Wick Video Game In Talks at Lionsgate

Hollywood studio Lionsgate is busy fielding proposals for a AAA John Wick video game. No game development studio has been mentioned yet as Lionsgate is still in discussions to greenlight the project. It will be based on the John Wick movie trilogy which stars Keanu Reeves as a retired assassin who returns to the underworld of assassinations seeking revenge against a criminal empire responsible for the death of his dog.

During a recent earnings call with investors, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that executives were looking to expand the John Wick series beyond movies, mentioning a large video game project that the studio had already been proposing to game companies.

Feltheimer told investors at the earnings call:

“I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but we believe there is a big AAA game to be made out of John Wick. We have been fielding proposals. We certainly are interested in moving that forward, but I don’t want to say anything more about that at this time.”

The first John Wick movie released in 2014 and received critical acclaim for its inventive action sequences and Reeves’ great performance. A sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, was released in 2017 that continued to build upon the world of assassins set up in its predecessor. Given its success, a third film John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was released in 2019 and received the highest review scores in the franchise yet. A fourth film is expected to launch in March 2023.

The video game market is one of the most lucrative entertainment industries in the world, surpassing the earnings of even Hollywood and the film industry every year. Lionsgate wanting to break into the gaming industry shouldn’t come as a surprise. Additionally, a John Wick game in the right hands sounds awesome.
