Blue Box Games has announced Abandonded, an upcoming PS5 exclusive survival sim where players explore a highly detailed open world that has been inspired by realism. At first glance, Abandoned looks like something out of the Blair Witch Project thanks to its dense forests and crumbled buildings. However, the story is centred around Jason Longfield who wakes up in a strange forest not remembering how he got there.
Jason now needs to find out why he was kidnapped and what are the dark intentions surrounding the area and the people involved. Jason needs to fight for survival and escape the forest but it may not be as easy as he thinks.
Hasan Kahraman from Blue Box Games explained that Abandoned on PS5 aims to deliver an ultra-realistic gameplay experience. Every event has an influence on Jason. For example, sprinting until out of breath will affect Jason’s firing accuracy. In addition, firing weapons in the game will be less “shooter” and more realistic as they include a realistically slow fire rate that relies on precision.
The game is also brought to life through the PS5’s 3D audio and DualSense controller. Hasan says that the experience would not have been possible without this tech.
We wanted to emphasise realism through user immersion. This would not be possible without the DualSense wireless controller. Players will feel each and every interaction during gameplay – such as being struck by a bullet. Pulling the trigger on a loaded or unloaded gun will feel different. Equally 3D audio will help shape your decisions and tactics, using the accurate positioning of gunshots out in the wilds to help decide your next move.
Players can expect Abandonded on PS5 to run at 4K 60FPS when it releases. The studio has worked hard on high-quality motion capture while also creating environments that look realistic as the player explores them. Abandoned on PS5 is set to launch in Q4 2021.
