Abandoned developer Blue Box Game Studios and its lead Hasan Kahraman recently claimed that they reached out to Silent Hill publisher Konami to clarify the rumours surrounding the game being linked to Hideo Kojima or the psychological horror IP.
In an interview with Colin Moriarty (via the PlayStation podcast Sacred Symbols+), Kahraman said he approached Konami following the reports of Abandoned somehow being linked to a new entry in the Silent Hill franchise. His aim was to clear the rumours, stating that it was never his intention to mislead fans with the game’s cryptic teases and marketing.

Kahraman’s full statement reads:
“I reached out to them, I was stressed out because people thought it was Silent Hill. It got so out of hand, and you know, you’re this small developer, you’ve never had a big audience, you’re inexperienced. I reached out to Konami saying like, ‘Hey you know what, it was never my intention’ and they were really cool.”
Following the announcement of Abandoned at the PlayStation State of Play last year, the mysterious indie-horror game gained traction online due to its vague marketing that lead many to believe it might’ve been a ruse by Hideo Kojima or a teaser for the next Silent Hill game.
Kahraman quickly denounced this in June 2021, stating that they had no affiliation with Kojima, Kojima Productions or Konami regarding a new Silent Hill game. Instead, Abandoned was always meant to be an indie-horror game, though its cryptic marketing didn’t exactly convince many fans who were used to Kojima’s trolling tactics in the past (see Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and P.T.).
Last week, Blue Box Game Studios released a statement saying that the game still exists and is well in development, despite the studio doubling back and deleting several Abandoned-related tweets from their history.
Abandoned is currently in development for PS5.
