Abu Dhabi Sphere

Abu Dhabi is Getting its Own Vegas Sphere

It seems the popular Las Vegas Sphere was never meant to be a single structure. A second one is in development and planned to be built in Abu Dhabi.

Sphere Entertainment announced that it is working with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism to build one in the region. At the moment details are scarce on where the sphere will be installed. However, Sphere Entertainment says it will be the same size as the one in Las Vegas.

This means the Abu Dhabi Sphere (it already has a ring to it) will also be wrapped in a 580,000-square-foot screen. The attraction will likely play host to a number of tourist events and concerts. Given Abu Dhabi’s focus on large-scale amusement parks, this sphere will feel right at home.

James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sphere Entertainment says:

“The vision for Sphere has always included a global network of venues, and today’s announcement is a significant milestone toward that goal. Sphere is redefining live entertainment and extending the reach of its transformative impact. We are proud to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi to develop Sphere in their city.”

The Abu Dhabi Sphere is expected to be completed by 2030 to align the opening with the region’s Tourism Strategy 2030 plans.

The Las Vegas Sphere has grown quite popular over the past years since its opening. While its revenue stream remains questionable, the venue has played host to major concerts and events. One big concert was the U2: UC Achtung Baby Live at Sphere concert which went viral for its immersive visual production inside the dome.
