Activision Has Call of Duty Games Planned Until 2027

Activision has annual Call of Duty game releases planned until 2027. Company president Rob Kostich discussed these plans in a recent interview celebrating 20 years of the shooter franchise, stating that there are currently 3,000 developers working on new entries following this year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Kostich, in an interview with GamesBeat, confirmed that Call of Duty fans can expect annual entries in the series until 2027. “We’re constantly in our planning phase, our long-term planning phase,” he said. “Right now, we have games planned out all the way through ’27 for the things that we’re working on.”

Kostich added that the company learned lessons about what fans want out of the series, especially when it comes to the time periods and settings:

“Look, we’ve learned. I think we’ve done a lot of games in the future. We probably went as far there as we possibly could. We made some of the games in the past. You start to see the sweet spot over time and what really resonates with the community. You see things like the Modern Warfare and Black Ops franchises are really popular. We’ve certainly had some other games that have done really well, like the original World War II game from Sledgehammer in 2017 did really, really well as well.”

“It’s a balance, I think most importantly, that we feel like we actually need to provide good differentiated experiences, good things for people to get in, and feel like they’re experiencing new kinds of fun,” Kostich stated. He goes on to talk about the importance of weapons in the Call of Duty series and getting the right equipment in games for players to enjoy, adding that futuristic titles afford the developers more flexibility in terms of inventive weapons and ideas.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will host a multiplayer beta starting this weekend. A second beta will take place next weekend and will be free to all players.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on 10 November 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you check out our South African pre-order guide with the various editions you can buy.
