Activision is reportedly considering locking certain Call of Duty game modes behind the battle pass, it’s been claimed. According to the new report, these changes will come with Black Ops 7 which is expected to launch later this year, though the full extent of the changes and what players will need to actually pay for are unknown.
According to Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope, Black Ops 7 will launch this year with some changes to the battle pass. Specifically, Activision is apparently considering locking entire game modes behind the paid battle pass. Since Microsoft acquired publisher Activision Blizzard, the company revealed that new Call of Duty games will now launch on the highest Game Pass tier without necessarily charging full price like previous titles, giving Xbox players more options to enjoy the series.
However, this could also be a motivating factor behind the reported locked game modes – as well as some skins and loot – soon possibly being tied to the battle pass. TheGhostOfHope explained:
“Black Ops 7 will reportedly have more seasonal LTM’s and some of them would be considered higher value with unique rewards and different game mechanics/modes BUT the only way to play the LTMs will be to have the battle pass unlike how it’s currently free for everyone. They are planning on taking the higher tier skins, loot, and crossover operators for LTMs and making them only accessible to Battle Pass owners instead of having the Premium Event Track we currently get during Reloaded updates.”
Of course, we recommend taking all of this with a pinch of salt as Activision has yet to make any official announcements about Black Ops 7, let alone how the battle pass could change this year.
Despite Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 becoming the first game in the series to launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, it still managed to sell extremely well. In fact, it became the biggest launch in the franchise’s history, suggesting that Game Pass might’ve been a dent in the game’s interest for PC, PlayStation and Xbox players who actually purchased the game.
