Microsoft has announced that the highly acclaimed strategy series, Age of Empires will hit Xbox consoles in 2023. The release will see both the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires 2 and Age of Empires 4 release on Xbox Game Pass with support for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Of course, if you currently have Xbox Game Pass for PC, both titles are available on the service.
Microsoft says that both games will include a new tutorial system on Xbox to get players caught up with how it works using a controller. However, those of you who prefer to use a keyboard and mouse can also do so. Both games will include support for keyboard and mouse at launch. In addition, the games support cross-play multiplayer across PC and Xbox.
We’re so excited to bring one of the best and most beloved RTS games of all time to Xbox. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has been growing since its release in 2019. After almost 40 updates, 3 DLC additions bringing new civilizations and campaigns, and a constant stream of improvements, the game is the best it’s ever been. Players can enjoy 83 maps, 42 multiplayer civilizations, 34 single-player campaigns, 10 multiplayer modes, and 7 co-op campaigns. And now, Xbox players will be able to enjoy all this phenomenal game has to offer!
The company says that porting over an RTS to Xbox wasn’t easy. The team worked hard to develop the experience for a controller while also teaching players how to play a game as technical as this on a console.
A new tutorial designed specifically for controller input paired with a new user experience for console will help players get started. We’ve also added a new game AI which helps make resource management in a strategy game efficient and intuitive.
Microsoft has yet to announce a set date for the release. However, the companys says it will launch by the end of January 2023.
