After a highly successful pre-launch sign-up campaign, Age of Empires Mobile is now available on iOS and Android. While this news should be exciting for RTX fans, you need to get your expectations in check first. Age of Empires Mobile is exactly what it says it is – a mobile game. As a result, it lacks most of the fan-favourite mechanics of the series and at the same time, is littered in microtransactions.
To its credit, Age of Empires Mobile does let players experience classic eras and participate in combat. But there’s no world map to explore and city building relies on an idle feature. This has likely been done to accommodate the mobile platform. Instead of micromanaging troops, players will instead focus on controlling heroes and their assigned groups of troops linked to them.
Essentially, Age of Empires Mobile is the worst kind of mobile game. It features typical gacha elements and time-saving currencies. If you play any free-to-play mobile game, these are quite common. However, I know there are people out there who dive into these games regardless of their predatory microtransactions.
The game has been developed by Level Infinite, a Chinese mobile game developer known for some ridiculous pay-to-win mechanics. The studio also made Command and Conquer: Legions.
So if this sounds like something you’ll enjoy, give it a download. The game is available now on iOS through the App Store and Android through Google Play. There’s also an option to download the game’s APK directly from the website here.
Age of Empires Mobile combines the familiar elements of Age of Empires with strategic gameplay crafted specifically for the mobile platform to give fans of the genre a brand-new way to enjoy the beloved franchise. Experience exhilarating gameplay with swift and intense battles, rapid resource gathering and military building, defending against waves of enemies, and forming alliances with hundreds of players to aid in your cause to build a dominant empire.
