Sand Land is one of Akira Toriyama’s short stories which was released back in the year 2000 and spanned across 14 issues of the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The short story has now been turned into a video game thanks to Bandai Namco.

Sand Land was announced last year. The game sees players explore vast open-world locations both on foot and in makeshift vehicles. The game is an RPG mixed with action, adventure and a bit of vehicle combat. Players will craft these vehicles, which come in all shapes and sizes. Each vehicle has a specific gameplay style from racing to a flying tank-like helicopter that shoots rockets.

In Sand Land, players will also control their base of operations. Here, they can build new structures and as the game progresses, recruit people to live in the town. There’s also a home decor system where players can decorate various rooms with items they collect from their quests.

When they aren’t exploring the wasteland, players will also complete dungeons to earn loot and materials to level up their vehicles and base of operations. Combat is a mixture of using vehicles and their various weapons while also travelling on foot and using close combat to defeat enemies.

There’s a main story in Sand Land too. The game is directly based on the short story which follows a world left without its main supply of water. The Legendary Spring is said to have the magic to bring back the water to the world and players set off to find it.

Sand Land launches on 26 April for PS4, PS5, Xbox and PC. Check out the latest trailer below:
