Alan Wake 2 Gameplay Trailer Release Date Digital Only Launch

Alan Wake 2 Has Yet to Turn a Profit For Remedy

Alan Wake 2 might have been one of 2023’s biggest games but Remedy Entertainment says the game has yet to turn a profit.

The studio says Alan Wake 2 is officially the fastest-selling game developed in-house to date selling 1.3 million units. 1 million of those units were sold in 2023 with the remainder 300k sold in the early parts of this year.

Alan Wake 2 has surpassed the original game selling over three times more copies. In fact, the sequel sold more copies in the first two months than the original did during its current lifetime on the market. Control, on the other hand, has surpassed 4 million copies to date.

Remedy hopes that Alan Wake 2 manages to develop long-tail sales similar to that of Control. However, the studio has acknowledged the depreciating value of the game and its lack of profit.

The studio says Alan Wake 2 has not turned a profit despite its 1.3 million sales. Keep in mind that the game was heavily discounted on the Epic Game Store just a few weeks after launch. In addition, its digital-only launch meant gamers could often pick it up discounted across all platforms.

This digital-only launch was also hindered by an Epic Game Store exclusive release which some gamers refuse to buy into. The lack of a physical launch might also be to blame for some low sales numbers.

Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala says the company is generally happy with the Alan Wake 2 sales. He hopes the game will move more copies as the studio develops future updates and content.

“The price point has also remained at a high level, and the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses. We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players and expect the game to continue selling well.”

We know that Alan Wake 2 is expected to get DLC sometime in the future. The first expansion – Night Springs will let players play as several familiar characters from the world of Alan Wake. Players will also get to experience the unexplainable in multiple self-contained episodes of Night Springs.

The second expansion is known as The Lake House. It will see players exploring a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organisation to conduct secret research… until something goes wrong.
