Remedy Entertainment says movie or TV adaptations of Alan Wake and Control are in the ‘early days’ of development and nothing has been set in stone yet. Hollywood has seen a rise in video game adaptations over the last decade with varying degrees of success. However, Alan Wake and Control make a lot of sense as the cinematic style of the games could easily be translated over to movies or television series without losing the appeal.
Speaking to IGN in a recent interview, Remedy Entertainment’s Sam Lake was asked about the movie and TV adaptations of Alan Wake and Control, which were already announced by the studio back in August in collaboration with Annapurna Pictures. Lake said the team is “very excited” but added that the adaptations are still in the “early days” of any substantial progress being made.
Lake responded:
“Now, with Annapurna, we have a perfect partner and it feels like a genuine collaboration. Obviously, they bring in their prestige expertise and we bring in our universe and our games, and together we are exploring ideas. But yes, early days, but I am very excited.”
In the same interview, Sam Lake was also asked if Remedy would work with director David Lynch on Alan Wake. After all, Alan Wake 2 was heavily inspired by Lynch’s movies – especially the Twin Peaks series. “Wouldn’t that be cool?” Lake said. “Yeah, no. I mean, as I said, early, early days, and where we are with everything is that we are just exploring the potential in our universe for different projects and ideas. We’ll see where it goes.”
In related news, the latest DLC for Alan Wake 2, titled The Lake House, possibly teases and sets up Remedy’s next game, Control 2. A sequel to Control was already confirmed back in November 2022 so now it’s just a matter of waiting for the follow-up to be revealed.
