Xbox Series S owners won’t have the ability to play Alan Wake 2 at a higher frame rate. While it has already been confirmed that the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions will indeed both include performance modes, Remedy won’t add the mode to the Xbox Series S, for obvious reasons.
Remedy Entertainment confirmed to Game Informer that Alan Wake 2 won’t have a performance mode on the Xbox Series S. Instead, the platform will only include the one mode which the game will ship with.

Keep in mind that we still don’t know any specifics about either of these graphics modes yet. Remedy Entertainment says that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will include a performance mode but we don’t know what the target frame rate is. We also don’t know what resolution the game will run at on either the Fidelity Mode or Performance Mode.
As for the Xbox Series S, we’ll have to just assume Alan Wake 2 will run at 1080p/900p/720p upscaled to 1440p. Given the recent spat of game performance issues on the Xbox Series X, especially surrounding the Unreal Engine 5, we don’t have high hopes for the Xbox Series S running Alan Wake 2.
Alan Wake 2 releases on 27 October for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC through the Epic Games Store.
