A sequel to Alien: Isolation is officially in development, Creative Assembly has confirmed. The survival horror game was released in 2014 to mostly positive reviews with many praising the advanced AI used for the xenomorph and its faithfulness to the Alien universe of movies. A decade later on the game’s 10th anniversary, it looks like we’re finally getting a sequel.
Creative Assembly’s creative director Al Hope put out a statement on social media yesterday celebrating Alien: Isolation‘s 10th anniversary. In the statement, Hope talked about the long journey of the game’s development and post-release before mentioning that a sequel was officially in early development. “Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development,” Hope stated. “We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.”
Discussions about a potential sequel began at Creative Assembly as early as 2014. However, a year later, the studio head Tim Heaton said that a sequel was “not out of the question” but it was financially unfeasible at the time. In 2017, Eurogamer finally reported that an Alien: Isolation sequel was not in development and most of the design team for the game had left the company. Fast forward to present day and we finally have confirmation of a continuation. You can read Hope’s full statement below:
Alien: Isolation received mostly positive reviews when it launched on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC back in 2014. Praise was given to the game’s xenomorph AI which adapted to the player, learning their routes and movements to become a more efficient stalker and killer on board the Nostromo. Players could also use motion sensors to track the movements of the xenomorph, forcing you to also adapt.
Creative Assembly hasn’t put a date on the sequel yet and since it’s still in early development, we might have to wait a while to hear more news.
