The Subaru Outback SUV is coming to South Africa. This is big news for Subaru fans as the company says two models will be available for South African drivers. For starters, the car comes with a new and more powerful 2.5-litre direction injection Boxer engine as well as new refinements inside the car such as an 11.6-inch tablet interface.
The Subaru Outback SUV will be offered in South Africa across two models. There are the Field and the Touring models which both offer various tweaks to suit your driver preference. The Field model is has adopted a rugged design while the Touring model is an urban model.
Subaru says the new Outback SUV packs some neat new quality-of-life features including a Hands-Free Tailgate function where drivers can wave their hand or arm directly in front of the rear Subaru badge to gain access to the car’s boot.
There’s also a DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System that scans the driver’s face through sensors and cameras. It then uses facial recognition to detect signs of fatigue or distraction. The driver is then warned to pay more attention to the road. This system also automatically adjusts the driving position and mirrors according to a 5-pre-set setting so users can set up different preferences for each driver. No more “who the hell moved my %@#$! seat back” nonsense in the household.
Other features include the 11-6-inch tablet interface that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are also 4 USB ports that accompany this system. The Subaru Outback SUV also includes some impressive smart features such as a new generation of EyeSight technology. It allows for Autonomous Corrective Steering, improved lane-keeping, vibration feedback through the steering wheel and a wider field of view through a new dual-camera system.
Nteo Nkoli, Marketing Lead at Subaru SA says that the Subaru Outback SUV in South Africa marks a huge leap for the brand not only in performance but in safety and technology.
“The all-new Subaru Outback is a leap ahead in terms of benchmark safety and technology not just for Subaru but for others in the segment as well. Now offered in two grades, this is a continuation of our strategy to offer our South African customers even more choice and the imminent arrival of this flagship product is exciting news for Subaru SA and all our customers. It really is a mind shift in terms of what is possible.”
The all-new Subaru Outback SUV will be available in South Africa starting 1 May 2021. The Subaru Outback 2.5 Field model retails from R699,000 and the Touring model from R729,000.
