October is, without a doubt, the hottest month for video game releases this year. We’ve listed over 40 games coming your way next month, and we cannot wait to bring you as many reviews as fast as possible.

Forza Horizon 4

We gave Forza Horizon 4 a review score of 9.8/10. It is simply a state-of-the-art racer and one of the best racing experiences on the market. It is bigger and better in every way possible.

The four seasons act as the foundation for the game’s stellar racing system. You take on the role of a silent racer who has once again entered the prestigious Horizon Festival, a worldwide racing fest. The seasons act as a weekly reset so every week you will be able to come back and do something new. The game includes over 450 cars that you can buy using credit you earn from completing races or win them in the Horizon Spin, a slot machine-like raffle that randomly picks an item of different rarities to award you. Cars are customizable with the same great vinyl and paint system from the past game.

For those who really want to take things to the next level, the performance upgrades allow for a detailed fine tune of your car. New upgrades include suspension tweaks and entirely new body kits that change everything at once. Cars now also have specific skills that you can master by gaining XP and unlocking perks.

The new seasonal changes add a great layer of depth to the game but in the end, it is the smooth racing, great cars, gorgeous open world and the sheer amount of activities available that makes the game so great.

Mega Man 11

  • Releasing: 02 October
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One & Nintendo Switch
  • Developer: Capcom

Mega Man 11’s Blue Bomber will still be the familiar icon we all love, albeit with a fresh coat of paint, and beautifully, handcrafted 3D models. 2018’s Mega Man will offer something for veterans and newcomers to the series. Fans can expect the classic platformer gameplay that inspired what we see today in the genre. Mega Man 11 will include the “series’ signature challenge”, and different levels of difficulty settings.

You can play through the eight stages in any order, and at the end of each you will fight one of the eight Robot Masters. They are; Block Man, Fuse Man, Blast Man, Acid Man, Tundra Man, Torch Man, Impact Man, and Bounce Man. New weapons are added to your arsenal after each successful boss fight. Mega Man 11 includes two new abilities; Speed Gear that slows down time, and Power Gear that increases attack power. Players can choose from four difficulty settings; Newcomer, Casual, Normal, and Superhero. The Switch version includes Amiibo support.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s post-launch content will be the “the biggest and most ambitious in the franchise.” It includes an extensive lineup of free updates for all players, as well as the season pass with two major story arcs that will be released in episodic format.

We played Odyssey at E3, and concluded that it is much more of an RPG than ever before and compared to Origins, its skill tree, character gear system and even its combat has shifted its focus onto a more diverse route than ever before. Odyssey is the first Assassin’s Creed game to allow players to unlock actual skills in the skill tree, rather than stat bonuses, and assign them to a hotkey. Best of all, the skills are more than just being able to shoot an extra arrow and more like being able to call down a barrage of arrows from the sky like some Demon Hunter from Diablo III. The Spartan Kick is without a doubt one of the best things we have ever used in an Assassin’s Creed game.

The gear system has also seen a facelift. Gear now contributes to an overall stat across different trees and each of them feeds into a specific play style. Hunter, Warrior, and Assassin all change depending on the type of gear you equip and each state contribute to a specific attack style. This means building the perfect character build to go hand in hand with your skill tree and weapon style will be a deep experience. The Occupation

The Occupation is one of our top five under the radar games we cannot wait to play. It includes some unusual gameplay and a fascinating premise.

You play as a journalist, and the whole game plays off in a single building, and in real-time over four hours. The main theme is political unrest over The Union Act; something that threatens the civil liberties of the British population. When it comes to gameplay, there is no health system. When the player makes wrong decisions, the game punishes them by taking away 15 minutes of game time. Your game time is limited to four hours, and you’ll need every second to obtain knowledge.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

We enjoyed both the Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta and our time with Blackout. For us, Blackout was so good that it has the potential to save the Call of Duty series, and be the next battle royale king. There is no doubt, that even without the traditional single-player campaign, that this year’s Call of Duty has a lot to offer. Treyarch swapped the campaign for Solo Mission modes that focus on the backstories of the Specialists.

Multiplayer is based on four key factors; grounded combat, fluid and responsive controls, tight gameplay, and an authentic military feel. Gameplay is based on the “guns up” philosophy, which means the player engages with his or her weapon for almost all actions taken. Black Ops 4 will also be the first Call of Duty game to feature a Predictive Pattern Recoil System; meaning, players can make changes to their weapon on the go and while shooting. The Pick 10 system is back, maps are smaller, and teams are now 5 vs. 5, with one Specialist type allowed per team.

Three Zombie experiences launches on day one; IX, Voyage of Despair and fan-favourite, Blood of the Dead. The story centres around a secret society who owns an artefact that when activated can turn people (and things like a grand piano), into Zombies. There are four playable characters, three men and one lady, each with a unique story, abilities, perspective and looks. Easter Egg hunters will be happy to know that the Zombie mode will be packed with secrets.

Red Dead Redemption 2

For many, this is the most anticipated game of 2018. From what we’ve seen so far its open world looks gorgeous, inviting, and promises all the action a cowboy can handle. Locations range from swamps to towns bustling with activities, to a dangerous pass through snowy mountains. Also, you will need over 100GB of hard drive space to download the game on PS4.

Red Dead 2 is set 12 years before the first game and follows the story of the Van Der Linde gang led by Dutch Van Der Linde. The protagonist is Arthur Morgan, who is van der Linde’s enforcer. He is the man that gets the job done, and he is fiercely loyal to the gang as it is the only home he has ever known. You’ll be able to interact and develop relationships with each member of the gang. With Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar wants to showcase the diversity of life in America’s Wild West of 1899. It’s also a time when America turns to modernization and the way of the outlaw is starting to become something of the past. This is the perfect setting for conflict as these two ways of life crash, with Dutch’s gang right in the centre of it all.

The game also has a multiplayer component titled Red Dead Online. The beta releases in November and will be free to play for anyone who owns the base game. You can play the entire game in first-person mode, which is a first for the franchise. You can also switch between first and third person on the fly.

Call of Cthulhu

Any video game based on an H.P. Lovecraft novel has to be unusual, right? He is one of the most loved and respected authors in the horror genre, and his work is described as having “an incalculable influence on succeeding generations of writers of horror fiction.”

You play as a private investigator who is also a struggling alcoholic. Just imagine the things an alcoholic induced imagination can conjure when thrown into the nightmarish world of Call of Cthulhu. You investigate the deaths of the Hawkings family on Darkwater Island just off the shores of Boston. It is a classic investigative game with pen and paper RPG elements, occult undertones, and a lot of mystery.
