Here are a few features on Netflix that have been added over the past year or so that you may not know about.
Personalised Profiles
There are 5-preloaded profiles on every Netflix account and each profile can be personalised with an icon. In 2018, one of the new Netflix features to be introduced was profile icons based on characters from Netflix shows and movies. This means that you can make your Netflix profile represent you and your favourite content.
Trailer Preview
The South African Netflix platform has grown by over 500% since it was launched. So, it’s hardly surprising that it can be a little overwhelming to choose what to watch from the massive catalogue of content available on Netflix.
Luckily, one of the awesome new Netflix features is the personalised recommendation system, which allows you to watch a preview of the trailer of the show or movie, making it easier to see if it’s something you’d like to watch. This makes scrolling through the vast selection of content on Netflix a lot easier.
Be Social
You can be social on Netflix by sharing your favourite movies and shows to Instagram. The feature is called Sharing to Instagram Stories and allows you to share what you’re watching without having to take screenshots.
Here’s how it works:
- Open the Netflix app on your device.
- Select the series/movie you wish to feature
- Tap on the ‘share’ option.
- Tap on ‘Instagram Stories,’ and you’ll be redirected to the Instagram app.
- An image of the cover art from the show or movie will appear
- Take it a step further and customize your IG Stories with text, GIF’s, or polls.
- Share to all of your followers and friends!
The Instagram Story will also feature a Watch on Netflix link.
Smart Downloads
It was one of the best new Netflix features when it was released for the app back in 2016. Since then, the feature has been updated a lot and this year Smart Downloads was introduced. This new feature manages your downloads on the Netflix app for you. It deletes episodes of shows once you’ve watched to free up space and then it automatically downloads the next episode.
