Amazon has decided to reboot the God of War series that was already well into pre-production at the studio. According to a new report, the show has gone back to the drawing board following various departures on the project. Showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus were already quite far into planning the show and this reboot is going to cause major delays.
The report claims that executive producers Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have all left the project. It is claimed that multiple scripts were already completed on the show and both Sony and Prime were impressed by the direction.
However, Sony and Amazon now plan on hiring a whole new writers room to work on the series so the current direction is going to be rebooted. The report claims that while this is a major setback for the show, Sony and Amazon believe the God of War series is an important asset and have put a large focus on getting the project back on the rails.
Judkins was a big player in the God of War show. He is also working on Wheel of Time and other developments at Prime. The report claims that he also has a deal with Sony so it isn’t clear if he will work on the God of War series yet.
The God of War series will still follow the Nordic setting for Kratos and the supporting cast but it isn’t clear how far it will deviate from the video games. Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog and Yumi Yang still both remain on the project. It will likely be a few years before we see this series in the flesh.
