AMD Announces Ryzen 7 9800X3D – Cheaper and Faster Than Intel’s Core Ultra 9

AMD has announced its new Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor which has been highly anticipated by PC enthusiasts. AMD says the chip is a “gaming legend” and can deliver enhanced gaming performance even without touching the overclocking settings.

AMD says the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a new Zen 5 CPU with 3D V-Cache and beats Intel’s direct competitor, the new Core Ultra 9 by 8% and 20% across both core performance graphs.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D follows other X3D chips by offering 3D V-Cache beneath the processor. This chip also offers a 500MHz improved base performance over the non-X3D chip. AMD has also improved the cooling on the chip by relocating the cache topology.

From a technical specification perspective, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D includes 8 Zen 5 cores for 16 threads of processing. It offers a base frequency of 4.7GHz with a boost of up to 5.2GHz without overclocking. It also comes with 104MB of cache, 64MB of which is a dedicated 3D V-cache. The chip uses 120W of power.

When tested across 40 games, AMD says the 9800X3D offers 8% faster performance than the 7800X3D and 20% compared to the direct competition. Benchmarks show games such as Hogwarts Legacy were improved by up to 26% compared to Intel.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D not only paces past Intel’s Core Ultra 9 chip but it uses half the power, doesn’t get as hot and costs $479 compared to Intel’s $599 price tag.

AMD is expected to release the chip on 7 November starting at $479.
