AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series Was Missing in Action at CES 2025

AMD has announced its next-gen lineup of Radeon GPUs… well, sort of. The brand hosted its CES 2025 keynote, where the company touched on various new products. Most notably were the new high-performance desktop and notebook chips. While everyone sat and waited for the GPU announcement, it never came. In fact, AMD completely left out the Radeon RX 9070 news and left us all scratching our heads.

While AMD didn’t showcase the new cards, the company did “preview” them in a press release. According to AMD executive David McAfee and Frank Azor, the lack of RDNA 4 GPUs during the keynote has nothing to do with the GPU performance. Tom’s Hardware reports that AMD never set out to announce the Radeon RX 9070 during CES as every single prior report claimed.

McAfee says that AMD’s plan to detail FSR4, Navi 4, and RDNA 4 has always aimed for Q1 of 2025 and that hasn’t changed. He says the 45-minute keynote didn’t provide enough time to showcase the GPU properly. If AMD were to include the news, it would have had to be crammed into 5 minutes.

“Just to set the record straight to begin with, the lack of RDNA 4 in this press conference has nothing to do with product development or any of that. The chips are in the lab, and they are performing well. It’s hitting all the targets in terms of performance and power. You’ll see many of our board partners showing off their designs, so they’ll all be out there talking about products that they have coming from the RDNA 4 family products during CES.”

AMD now plans to showcase the new Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT cards later this quarter as well as provide a deep look at FSR4. However, the whole situation is questioning what AMD’s plans were in the first place. According to reports, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series have already been shipped and are out in the wilds ahead of the originally intended review embargoes later this month. Now that everything has changed, it begs the question – why did AMD send the cards out in the first place?

The whole scenario might have been due to the recent NVIDIA 50-Series reveal that showcased the new cards and DLSS 4. Until AMD shares more, we at least have these two images to go on:
