Specs for the upcoming AMD Ryzen 9900X3D chip have leaked online detailing a moderate upgrade to the tech. The unannounced desktop chips are expected to launch before the end of the year but someone leaked the information ahead of the reveal. The leak comes from an MSI presentation where the two chips were compared to the Ryzen 7 7900X3D.
AMD is expected to announce and release two variants of the AMD Ryzen 9900X3D. There is an 8-core chip and a 16-core chip. The leak shows both variants compared to the Ryzen 7000 Series.
According to the leak, the new AMD Ryzen 9900X3D outperform the Ryzen 7 7900X3D by up to 28% in Cinebench R23 tests. However, from a gaming perspective, it only gains a 2% advantage in Black Myth: Wukong and Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the 8-core variant and 13% on the 16-core variant.
When compared to the standard Ryzen 9000 series, the X3D variant was practically the same in performance. MSI does state on the slides that this performance might change. It also claims that these review/media sample chips might also be unpatched with the latest performance updates from AMD. So while these tests might be accurate, they also might not be.
The leak from MSI also says the AMD Ryzen 9900X3D includes a 5.2GHz which is similar to the vanilla 9000 series chip. We know from previous leaks that the AMD Ryzen 9950X3D is also expected to include 144MB of L2 Cache compared to 80MB on the 9950X.
The rumoured AMD Ryzen 9000X3D series is expected to launch next month with a late October reveal on the cards. They will likely go up against Intel’s latest Core Ultra 200 Series which was unveiled last week. Stay tuned on the site for reviews of those Intel chips coming up soon alongside both Gigabyte X890 and ASUS ROG X890 boards.
