Analysts Expect $499+ Switch 2 Price and Biggest Launch in Video Game History

Video game analysts have predicted that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch at a higher retail price than its predecessor. According to Bloomberg, partners anticipate that the Switch 2 will sell for $400 or more when it launches later this year. This is before taking into account the looming tariffs that are about to greatly impact the industry.

Bloomberg says that while it doesn’t seem like it on the surface, the video game industry is about to be rocked by the launch of the Switch 2. Analysts say the launch could mark the biggest console release in video game history thanks to Nintendo’s delayed announcement and dragged-out release.

According to reports, the original Switch’s NVIDIA chip cost $80 per chip to install in the console. The new chip is expected to cost $150. That, along with the improved hardware, R&D, and other technical capabilities, will shoot the price of the console up to $499 or more.

Analysts claim that countless fans as well as investors have high hopes that the Nintendo Switch 2 will do well. Expectations across the industry have risen for the new console due to the aged Switch and Nintendo’s massive library of games that are in dire need of new hardware.

One analyst says Nintendo is going to sell boatloads of Switch 2 units in the first few months regardless of the price. They say the launch lineup is expected to be the strongest we have seen from any video game platform to date. This includes “a new Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4. There will also be third-party games including blockbusters like Call of Duty”.

One statement says Nintendo will easily clear 20 million Switch 2 consoles in the first year. This will be thanks to Nintendo’s aggressive stance against stock shortages and the measures it has taken to avoid scalpers. Previous reports claimed that Nintendo has delayed the Switch 2 by an entire year in order to prepare the launch lineup of games and provide ample stock for all markets.

Nintendo is expected to debut the Switch 2 hardware, features, price, and release date on 2 April during a special Direct stream. The company will then host limited hands-on demos at different locations around the world where players can get to experience the console for themselves.

In South Africa, you can currently sign up for updates on the console at various retailers ahead of the launch later this year.
