Andrew Garfield says he’d love to play Spider-Man again if given the chance. The actor appeared as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 2012 movie, The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While the quality of those movies are debatable, many fans feel that Garfield perfectly captured the webslinger’s quick-witted humour and personality very well.
Speaking to Esquire in a recent interview while promoting his latest A24 movie We Live in Time, Andrew Garfield said that returning as the iconic Marvel character in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where he appeared alongside fellow Spider-Man actors Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire, inspired him to try and step into the red and blue suit again in future projects.
Garfield stated:
“I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting, and that you can sink your teeth into. I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.”
While both Garfield and Maguire enjoyed one more chance at playing the webslingers in the MCU, it’s hard to say what plans Sony or Marvel has for the character. Tom Holland is set to return for Spider-Man 4, though we have little information to go on other than it might be directed by Shang-Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton. It’s also unclear if Garfield will make a return to the MCU as Marvel Studios continues to explore the possibilities of the multiverse.
Fans are also open to the idea of Garfield appearing in the Sony universe of Spider-Man movies detached from the MCU, where it’s possible for him to go up against villains like Venom or Kraven the Hunter. Hopefully Sony or Marvel will give Garfield another shot.
