Another Big Game Getting Pulled From Steam in Favour of The Epic Games Store

The fight between Steam and the Epic Games Store reached new heights late in January 2019 when Metro Exodus was pulled from Steam to become an Epic Games Store exclusive. Things heated up so much that disgruntled PC gamers review bombed the older Metro titles and I, for one, hoped that something like this would never happen again. Unfortunately, it has, as another big game, Anno 1800, has been pulled from Steam.

PC gamers who prefer Steam are upset and rightly so. Anno 1800 was up for pre-order on its Steam page for quite some time ahead of its 16 April release date. Unfortunately, the game won’t stay on Steam for long, as it will be entirely pulled from Steam on 16 April 2019 when it releases to become another Epic Games Store exclusive.

The game’s Steam page explains that:

Sales of Anno 1800 will be discontinued on Steam after April 16th due to a publisher decision to make the game exclusive to another PC store.

The publisher has assured us that all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam.

We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale after the April 16th release date.

Thankfully, those who have already pre-purchased Anno 1800 on Steam will still be able to play it on their preferred digital store. However, those who plan to go digitally but are waiting for reviews before jumping in will have to get it from the Epic Games Store.
