By now you should know that the current PS5 dev kit model which has been spotted a few times already features a “v-like” design. Last month we saw the first leaked photo of the device appear online before being revealed in a patent blueprint a few weeks before that. Eurogamer has now spotted yet another image of the PS5 dev kit and we can gather by now Sony’s new device is officially all over the world at studios as developers work on new PS5 games.

Eurogamer posted the photo of the two dev kits side by side which are actually placed near the PS4 and PS3 dev kits in some developer’s office somewhere. You can see them on the right-hand side of the V-shaped devices. The source of the image is unclear but wherever this was taken, clearly no one cared about keeping it a secret.

According to The Verge editor Tom Warren, the boxes pictured in the image are indeed the PlayStation 5 dev kit. Tom explains the reason for the v-shape design stating it is easier to stack them and developers who are running multiple stress tests can use a handful of the kits on top of each other. The cooling is optimized to push air out the sides and the centre even when stacked on top of each other.
Strangely enough, the controller which is also spotted on the dev kit seems very much the same as the DualShock 4. However, according to a patent filed a few weeks ago, Sony does not plan on drastically changing the design of the DualShock 5 so the model in the image could indeed be the new controller.
Keep in mind that these dev kits don’t in any way mean Sony will design the consumer version of the PlayStation 5 the same way. However, we could indeed see some inspiration coming through in the final console design.
