Apex Legends released to much excitement and it grew substantially within its first few weeks on the market. However, things are looking dire for the free-to-play online shooter as players numbers have dropped and revenue is falling.
Superdata is reporting that Apex Legends has fallen out of the top ten charts on console and PC in terms of revenue. Other huge games like PUBG, Fortnite, Pokemon GO, League of Legends and even World of Tanks remain steady as always.
Apex Legends is currently off the top ten for both console and PC. Looking at the Twitch numbers, the same downward spiral shows a massive drop in viewers since February 2019. The game’s launch was sitting at over 200k viewers which have halved as the months go by.
May 2019 is looking at as low as 20k viewers compared to 200k at launch. April 2019 was 35k and March 80k. There has no doubt been a massive drop across the board.
The revenue drops and Twitch stats points to possible trouble for the game. Players have refused to purchase the countless microtransactions available for sale, Respawn has yet to fix some of the most frustrating bugs, and the Apex Legends Battle Pass was a huge let down for current players. Although an annual content plan is been revealed, much of it lacks excitement at all.
Much of this also has EA to blame. The publisher pumped a bunch of money into the game’s marketing and paid streamers and influencers a lot of it for them to play the game. These contracts have since ended and everyone has returned to their own games leaving Legends getting little to no attention.
