Shortly after the release of Apex Legends in February, a petition was started by SA gamer Ruan Van Vliet and it grew quite quickly, getting over 4200 signatures. Since South Africa is just so far away from the servers, it is hard to be competitive in the game due to a huge ping disadvantage. There is still no official word on Apex Legends local servers right now, but the petition has reached a milestone that could be considered massive for our smallish gaming community.
Please note we have no control over local servers and are in no way affiliated with any ISP that can make it possible. This post is simply to raise awareness.
The petition for Apex Legends local servers, specifically for the African continent, has reached over 10,000 signatures and at the time of writing sits at 10,317. This is quite a massive number for the South African gaming community, as most top esports titles don’t even have half of that in terms of members on their respective local groups.
Clearly, there is a lot of people who want Apex Legends local servers. However, we don’t know if this petition will do anything at all, but it is probably worth it to sign it as it only takes a few seconds. You can sign the petition here, and read the petition description below, asking EA and Respawn to make Apex legends local servers a reality.
Currently Africa is the only continent without servers for this amazing title. This is a petition for public servers on the continent, for all platforms.
We love the game, we want to invest in it. We want to experience it the way it was meant to be experienced. Fellow gamers, please find it in your heart to support (y)our cause and make this dream reality.
Interestingly enough, Microsoft announced last week that it launched two Azure datacenters in South Africa, located in Johannesburg and Cape Town to empower cloud adoption throughout the entire African continent. Apparently, Respawn uses Microsoft Azure servers (they did with Titanfall, at least) so there is a chance that Apex Legends local servers might actually happen.
