It has been over ten years since Apple redesigned the Mac Mini. The smallest in the Mac family is the most accessible way to use Mac thanks to its great ports and versatile video output. Apple is now making the Mac Mini even better with a redesigned and supercharged M4 model.
The new M4 Mac Mini comes with 16GB of RAM by default and the M4 chip. There are two models in the range – a base M4 device and a powerful M4 Pro model. Expected pricing starts at $599 and $1399. Both models are expected to launch on 8 November.
The M4 Mac Mini boasts a new design. It has been shrunken considerably and is now only 12.7cm x 12.7cm. The Mac Mini has been known for being small but this is almost half the size of the current model. Apple says even with its tiny design, the Mac Mini packs innovative thermal architecture that guides air to different levels of the system while venting it all out of the bottom.
In terms of ports, the M4 Mac Mini comes with two USB C ports and a 3.5mm audio jack on the front. On the back, there are three Thunderbolt ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an ethernet and a power plug. Apple has officially ditched the USB-A port on the new Mac Mini. The speed of the Thunderbolt ports depends on the model you buy. If you go for the base M4 model, these are Thunderbolt 4. The M4 Pro model comes with Thunderbolt 5.
The high-end M4 Pro Mac Mini comes with a 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU. It can be specced with up to 64GB of RAM. The base M4 Mac Mini can be specced with up to 32GB of RAM. Both models can be custom-ordered with up to 8TB of storage.
At the moment we don’t have local pricing or a release date for the new Mac Mini. However, the M2 model currently starts at R13,599 for the base M2 and R29,499 for the M2 Pro. The new M4 model is expected to retail for around the same price.
The new M4 Mac Mini marks the second announcement from Apple this week. The company showcased its new iMac range yesterday with M4 chips. We are expected to see the MacBook announcements later today with new MacBook Pro models packing the M4 chips.
