Apple is reportedly considering making its own dedicated TV. Bloomberg reports that the company is once again in the early consideration phase for a TV that will be designed by Apple and include Apple TV as its operating system. I say “again” here because this is not the first time Apple has researched into developing its own TV.
The news comes after the company was reportedly shifting its focus towards smart home living. Apple is working on a dedicated display to install in your home that will run homeOS and manage all supported smart products. The display will look like an iPad and can be installed on your wall or mounted on a stand.
Part of this shift towards home devices now includes a TV – or considering a TV at this rate. Bloomberg says the company is “evaluating” an Apple TV display but that doesn’t mean it has been greenlit yet.
The TV market is highly competitive with dozens of brands fighting for market share. There are also already premium models out there too that offer high-end features if you’re willing to pay for them. Apple might find it difficult to fit in here. Unless, of course, the company can make something truly revolutionary.
Even then, Apple will rely on existing technology to make this TV and focus on adding its own flair to it. Whether it is OLED, Mini-LED or Micro-LED, this tech is already being produced by the likes of LG and Samsung. Apple would have to purchase these panels from other TV makers and find a way to Applefy it.
Of course, this is all still very early in development. Apple might eventually ditch the idea. The company has done so in the past. But it is still cool to hear they are considering it.
