Apple has dated its iPhone 16 event for 9 September. In an invite sent out last night, the company says “It’s Glowtime”. The event is expected to kick off on 9 September at 19:00 South African time. According to reports, the showcase has already wrapped up filming and is being edited ahead of the evening.
Of course, the September Apple events always focus on one major announcement, new iPhones. On 9 September, Apple is expected to debut the iPhone 16 lineup which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The base iPhone 16 is reportedly getting its first design change since the iPhone 12 with a new vertically-aligned camera set up. The camera lenses are bigger and situated above one another on the back. The iPhone 16 Pro lineup will still retain the three-camera layout but the phones are rumoured to get slightly larger displays. There’s also a new bronze model, which was originally rumoured to be rose gold.
Apple will add the Action Button to the iPhone 16 lineup this year. The button was introduced in last year’s iPhone 15 models. The iPhone 16 Pro devices are then rumoured to get a new camera button. This button will let users capture videos and photos with a single touch and zoom in and out during shooting by toggling it.
Apple Intelligence will also be a big focus for the 9 September Apple event. All devices announced during the event will support the new AI features. At the moment, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have Apple Intelligence support.
Lastly, Apple is expected to debut two new AirPods and the Apple Watch Series 10. No details yet on what these products will feature.
