Apple has quietly released a new Discovery Channel on its Apple Music platform. The channel is rolling out in various regions now and aims to deliver curated recommendations to users depending on what they listen to.
Unlike the other curated station which has “Your Name’s Station”, this Discovery Station plays a selection of music you don’t have in your library. It kind of works similarly to various Spotify playlists which the platform has had for a while already.

After testing the station for a few hours myself, I was quite impressed by how varied the music selection was. It played remixes of some music I already had in my library but at the same time, offered some new artist recommendations which I had never stumbled upon before.
Of course, the Discovery Channel works on an algorithm so the more you listen to a certain type of music or artist, the more it will know about your music taste. The channel likely makes use of the “Similar Artist” section at the bottom of an artist’s page to help deliver these recommendations too.
At the moment Apple has yet to comment on the release of this new Discovery Channel. We also don’t know whether or not Siri will be integrated into it. It would be pretty neat if we could just say “Siri, help me discover some music” and the playlist will kick off.
Apple doesn’t add these channels to Apple Music often. In fact, the only curated algorithm channel on the service up to now has been the Personal Station listed as “Your Name’s Station”.
Currently, the Discovery Station is available on the Apple Music Windows app, and Mac App and I found it on my iPhone only after starting it up on my Mac.
