PS5 owners can now download and stream on Apple Music thanks to the added media app now available on the console. Last week, users started spotting the app on their console home menus hinting at the possible rollout for the service. Sony has now confirmed the news and released the app.
Apple Music on PS5 will live alongside Spotify and enable users to listen to their music in the background on their consoles. Apple Music boasts over 90 million songs and thousands of 4K music videos all now available on PS5.
Sony says that Apple Music on the PS5 is easy to set up and link to your Apple ID. It will carry over all existing subscriptions. However, unlike Apple TV+ that offered a 6-month trial, there’s no freebie trial for Apple Music on the PS5. Unless you are a brand new subscriber on the platform.
As for the 4K music video playback, Sony says that users can watch these music videos in full screen and in the background while they play games. You can start watching the song and easily navigate to your PS5 home screen while keeping the video alive in the background. You can then switch back to the video with ease.
Apple Music subscribers can also find and watch music videos from a wide selection of artists in the Apple Music app. Start by playing the video in full screen; if you decide you want to go back to your gameplay or navigate elsewhere on the PS5’s home screen, the audio from the music video will continue to play. If you want to go back to the music video, it’ll also pick up seamlessly from wherever you are in the song, with no interruption to the music. We hope you enjoy Apple Music on PS5. .
