Apple just hosted an event last month where they announced their iPhone XS, XR and Apple Watch Series 4 but they are not stopping as their much-rumoured October event has been revealed and dated.
Apple will host a very special reveal event on 30 October where the tech giant is said to reveal new iPads and Macs. Be it iMacs or MacBooks, we will have to see what they have up their sleeves. The event will take place on 30 October 2018 in Brooklyn, New York and according to leaks, the event will play host to a few new Apple device reveals.
First off is a new iPad. It has been over a year since Apple revised their iPad range and according to leaks, the new iPads are said to have a new 11-inch and 12.9-inch all-screen display with FaceID over the old-school fingerprint scanner unlock. The new iPads are said to have higher screen-to-body ratio than any other models and rounded screen edges over the sharp ones found on current models.
The iPads will still use LCD displays and will likely not move into OLED territory like the iPhone X and XS due to the cost of the OLED panels. However, Apple does have their so-called “Liquid LCD” displays seen in the iPhone XR which could be used to create the curved corners on the new iPad range.
Rumours also point to the iPads making use of USB Type-C over their past Lightning connector which has been a standard since 2012 when Apple revised their charging port. If this is the case, it would mean faster charging times for the iPad range and a more versatile cable system. Of course, the Apple Pencil will play an important role in the reveal as the invites seen above tease some sort of artistic importance to the iPad.
If you are into your Apple computers then the new MacBooks could see you upgrade too. According to leaks, Apple could be releasing a cheaper 13-inch MacBook that is said to be the successor to the MacBook Air. The Air has not been updated in ages so it could finally be replaced with a new model. Apple is also said to be revealing a new Mac Mini which too has not seen a new model since 2014.
Apple may also finally share some light on a new AirPod hardware update. The AirPods have been around for almost two years and rumours point to a new waterproof model with improved BlueTooth and battery life. Apart from those, Apple has yet to share any new information on the wireless charging mat which they revealed initially last year at the iPhone X event. The October showcase could see a release date and pricing for these devices.
You can watch the event on the day on Apple’s website. The reveals will kickoff at 16:00 SA time.
