Apple’s industry-defining AirPods range has been on the market for a couple of years already and it seems the company plans on refreshing the Pro lineup this year. The AirPods Pro launched back in 2019 which means a new refresh is expected any day now. According to Mark Gurman, it is coming.
The well-sourced insider reports that Apple is working on an AirPods Pro gen 2 refresh which is expected to be announced this year. In Gurman’s Apple newsletter, he spilt the beans saying that the batteries for early adopters are probably already starting to show degradation due to the original 2019 release being so far apart. This is a sure sign Apple is working on a refresh.
Gurman also says that Apple will release a new range of AirPods Max colours this year. He also expects a price drop. While we don’t know what colours are headed our way, hopefully, the new colour range comes with a price drop. Currently, the AirPods Max costs $550 or around R11299.
Mark Gurman isn’t the only insider to report on this new AirPods news. Apple Analyst Min-Chi-Kuo also claims that the new AirPods Pro and AirPods Max colours are expected to release in the later half of 2022. The Airpods Pro could feature a more compact design that trims down the stem while also coming in a smaller case. The AirPods Pro might also get lossless audio support through Bluetooth.
Apple usually keeps these announcements for upcoming events which take place throughout the year. However, the company has already hosted its Spring event and the next event, WWDC 22 is taking place next month. I doubt we will see these revealed during its developer conference. If anything, Apple might just announce the new device randomly online as they did the past few headphones.
