Apple Vision Pro Announced

Apple has finally shed some light on its much-rumoured mixed reality headset and called it the Apple Vision Pro. The device packs a Micro OLED panel with 23 million pixels. That is combined with a three-lens focal array to create a headset that wraps around your vision. The headset is able to blend in and out of the environment around you by simply rotating a dial.

Apple Vision Pro includes a front glass panel attached to an aluminium frame. Apple has added a 3D knitted headband too. Users can also attach optical inserts to the device to help with eyesight. Apple Vision Pro works plugged in but there’s also an external battery that lasts 2 hours when wireless connected to the device.

Apple has packed the Vision Pro with what the company is calling the R1 chip. The chip handles all the workings of the dozens of sensors. There’s also an M1 chip which handles the computing of the device.

Vision Pro has been built on a new software platform called VisionOS. This means you can download apps, play games, watch movies and more. Users can also link their iPhone, iPad and Mac to the Vision Pro and bring their display into the layout and continue working while in the headset.

The device also unlocks by scanning your iris. Yes, the new OpticID security means a stranger can’t put on the headset. The internal sensors need to scan your iris in order to unlock the device.

The Apple Vision Pro will release in early 2024 for $3499. Apple plans to roll the headset out globally in 2024 but by the sound of things, it won’t be arriving in every country at launch.
