Apple is expected to bump up the screen size of the Apple Watch Series 10 to match the existing Ultra model. This means the Apple Watch Series 10 will feature a 49mm display.
The news comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who recently touched on the Apple Intelligence delay into 2025. Gurman says this year’s Apple Watch Series 10 will include a 49mm display on its larger model as well as a thinner case and new chip. The new chip will lay the “groundwork for some AI enhancements down the road”.
Apart from the larger display and surface body, the Apple Watch Series 10 won’t feature any other design changes. While rumours of a magnetic strap system were swirling around earlier this year, it seems Apple won’t ditch its quick-release watch strap system in the Series 10.
Apple will reportedly stay away from adding new health sensors to the Watch Series 10 this year due to the ongoing legal battle regarding its now-banned blood oxygen sensor. The company is currently fighting Massimo who managed to get Apple’s blood oxygen sensor banned in the US over its so-called “unreliability”.
The company is rumoured to be working on a sleep apnea detection sensor but as long as the ban remains in place, it won’t roll this out. So the Apple Watch Series 10 will likely just be a beefier watch this year.
Apple is also working on a new Watch SE model to align with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE. The company is reportedly including a rigid plastic case on the watch to make it cheaper and lighter. Apart from that, Gurman says the Apple Watch Ultra Series 3 won’t see any design changes but will include the Series 10 chip for AI.
We can expect the new Apple Watch lineup announcement in September alongside the rumoured iPhone 16 range. We know Apple is working on a rose-coloured iPhone 16 Pro device with high-energy density batteries.
