We are only a few hours away from the WWDC 24 keynote event where Apple is expected to showcase its innovations in AI. Apple is the last of the three giant corporations to host its AI-focused event so all eyes are on the company as customers and investors are hoping for exciting news.
Later this evening, the Apple WWDC 24 keynote kicks off. You’ll be able to watch it live from 19:00 CAT / 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT over on the official Apple website and YouTube channel. You’ll also be able to watch it on your Apple TV. This is likely the best place to watch the event given that Apple streams it in 4K HDR.
WWDC is all about software. While Apple has announced a few products during previous shows, year after year, the event has moved away from product announcements and focused only on software updates. This year will be no different.
We will, of course, get our first look at iOS 18, WatchOS 11, iPadOS 18 and a new version of Mac. Sources claim that iOS 18 will be Apple’s bigger focus this WWDC as it unveils AI features coming to iPhones. Apple is calling its AI technology Apple Intelligence.
Apple is using Siri as a focus point for iOS 18 and the AI assistant aims to better understand its user and their questions. Siri will reportedly be able to manage and take action in certain apps for the first time in iOS 18,
Some AI features in iOS 18 include summaries of messages and webpages and real-time transcription in Notes and Voice Memos. There’s also a custom emoji generator being developed and various AI photo editing tools too.
Apple has signed a deal with OpenAI to work on a ChatGPT-like chatbot across its devices. Details are scarce on exactly how this will all work but according to sources, it will incorporate the smart assistant-like conversations we have seen in the past.
iOS 18 is also expected to get a Home Screen overhaul. The software update will reportedly let users arrange their apps to their liking and leave blank spaces around the screen. Apple is also incorporating a new theme system into iOS 18 where users can recolour their icons to match each other.
Apple is also revamping a number of apps with AI and new features. This includes the Calculator (finally), Settings App and the Control Centre. The company is also expected to launch a dedicated password manager app.
We will share all the WWDC news later this evening after the show.
