ARC Raiders Delayed to After Project Discovery Gets Released

Embark Studios has announced its upcoming team shooter ARC Raiders won’t release this year. The game was announced during The Game Awards last year and given that we have seen nothing at all besides a CG trailer for the game, this delay comes as no surprise. Embark Studios says the plan was to release ARC Raiders this year (sure, Jan), but the studio has now shifted its focus away from that game to work on another team-based shooter called Project Discovery.

Like ARC Raiders, we also know very little about this other game called Project Discovery. Embark Studios released a short trailer for the title in November last year and as you might have guessed it, we haven’t seen or heard anything about the game since.

In a statement, Embark Studios’ owner Patrick Söderlund says that working on two shooters at the same time in order to release them around the same period would strain the small development team. As such, the studio has decided to put ARC Raiders on the burner while it works on Project Discovery instead. The move will apparantly allow the studio to expand and refine ARC Raiders.

The world of ARC Raiders is exceptionally compelling and lends to many ways to play. Over the course of this spring, we started to concept and prototype a PvP-focused game mode in the ARC Raiders universe that we’re eager to spend some more time on before the game’s release. This extra time will allow us to do just that.

If you ask me, Embark Studios has clearly bitten off more than it can chew. In a world littered with team-based shooters, we don’t really need another one and ARC Raiders definitely had a lot more people talking than some random unnamed “Project Discovery” game that was forgotten soon after its uninteresting Twitter video reveal.

Embark says that more information about Project Discovery will be shared “soon”. Don’t get your hopes up. I don’t expect either of these games before 2024.
