After going on a racist rant last week, Zach Hoyt, also known as Asmongold has apologized and at the same time, tried to make people understand why he acted the way he did. If you missed it, Asmongold went on a racist tangent last week when he shared his views on the military campaign against Palestine that has claimed over 40,000 lives.
Asmongold said “I don’t give a fuck – they’re terrible people” and followed up by degrading the religion saying “At the end of the day, this is an immoral, evil culture. I truly believe that. They aren’t the same as us. They are an inferior culture”. Soon after the rant, Asmongold posted on X saying “Looking back on it, I was way too much of an asshole about the Palestine thing. My bad”. However, the internet didn’t think this was a “my bad” situation and rallied against the streamer.
As a result of the backlash, Twitch suspended his account for 14 days and Zach Hoyt announced he would be stepping away from his leadership duties at his media company, OTK. Now that the dust has settled, Hoyt has shared a new video on YouTube explaining how streaming has had a negative impact on his personality and life.
In the video, Asmongold claims that streaming over the last two years has been “slowly devolving into the most mean-spirited … rude, nasty, callous, psychopathic version of myself.” The video shares his insight into the industry and he claims that streamers have given rise to the most reckless, racist, homophobic and misogynistic culture.
Of course, we have seen the rise of this. Over the years, streamers have been bravely pushing the shock factor through content more than anything else. From PewDiePie’s racist and antisemitic phrases to Logan Paul’s suicide stunt. Now, streamers are all jumping on the anti-woke bandwagon as they attempt to rile up as many people either by fighting against their so-called “beliefs” or gaining a following of similar-minded people.
If you aren’t complaining about some video game having too many females in it, you’re posting videos about how gay Star Wars has become. It is a massive online trend.
Asmongold closed his video by saying “There have been ways that I have acted that are indefensible,” he said. “Looking back on it, it’s just disgusting.” However, he did explain on Reddit that he doesn’t plan to change his behaviour but instead, make his streams more positive. He also assured fans that he would still react to DEI-DIE gaming videos on his first day back on the stream.
