A potential remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has been the subject of rumours and speculation for the past few years. It might be one of gaming’s worst-kept secrets at this point, though Ubisoft has yet to officially make an announcement. However, the voice actor behind the game’s protagonist, Edward Kenway, might’ve accidentally fanned the flames about a remake being in the works.
As reported by X user TheRealZephryss, Edward Kenway voice actor Matt Ryan was seen responding to fans at a convention with some interesting comments. “Have you beat the game? Well, you may have to beat it again,” he told one fan. “There’s a reason I say that but I can’t say anything.” A video was posted with Ryan saying this, hinting at the fact that a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag might actually be on the way.
Of course, without any official announcement yet from Ubisoft, we just have to take the good word of the protagonist’s voice actor who would’ve likely had to return to the studio to possibly re-record some lines or brush up his performance for a remake.
Ubisoft is still going strong with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Earlier this year, the company released Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the next mainline entry set in feudal Japan. The development team is still releasing updates for the game. The latest patch arrived last week which added new story content and a new challenging difficulty mode called Nightmare.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag originally released in 2013 and was applauded for its open world Caribbean setting, naval combat, writing and exploration. The game’s ship combat was later re-purposed and re-used in later entries in the franchise as well as Skull and Bones. It’s unclear when Ubisoft plans to reveal the remake but it won’t be long now that the cat’s been out of the bag and tap dancing across message boards and forums online.
