Ubisoft has debuted the first cinematic reveal trailer for its upcoming open world stealth-action game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, along with a confirmed release date of 15 November 2024. The trailer mainly focuses on the two playable protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. Previous reports about the game’s release date also turned out to be accurate as it’s set to launch later this year for consoles and PC.
The cinematic reveal trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows follows Naoe, a young shinobi woman who meets Yasuke, an African samurai. It seems like they form a bond of vengeance and the will to do good, becoming the “shadows that serve the light.” Little else is known about the story beyond the cinematic and two main characters but we’ll likely hear more about the game in the coming months leading up to its November release date.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows was initially revealed under the working title Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, which showed the franchise’s first step into feudal Japan – a highly-requested time period fans have been asking Ubisoft to cover in the series.
Ubisoft has updated an official website for the game offering some details. It looks like players will have to choose if they want to play as the shinobi Naoe or the samurai Yasuke. This might also play into the gameplay as both protagonists seem to offer unique playstyles. Yasuke will take the more upfront, direct approach to combat while Naoe will use her ninja tactics to hunt foes stealthily from the shadows.
“As the quick-witted and agile Naoe, use noise, light, and shadows to evade detection as enemies respond to their changing surroundings,” Ubisoft explains. “Distract guards using kunai, shuriken, and smoke bombs, infiltrate enemy bases with your grappling hook and parkour skills, and assassinate your targets with the hidden blade.”
On Yasuke, Ubisoft states, “As the legendary and charismatic samurai Yasuke, strike your foes with brutal precision and power. Use his combat-oriented skills to attack, block, parry, and defeat your enemies. Master the vast arsenal of weapons at your disposal – featuring katana, kanabo, bows, naginata, and more – to free Japan from its oppressors.”
On the open world of feudal Japan, Ubisoft described:
“Discover the captivating open world of Feudal Japan, from spectacular castle towns and bustling ports to peaceful shrines and pastoral landscapes. Adventure through unpredictable weather, changing seasons, and reactive environments.”
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on 15 November 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Watch the cinematic reveal trailer below:
