Ubisoft has delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows into 2025. The game was originally expected to launch in November this year but the studio says it needs more time to provide polish and refinement.
The announcement comes just a few days after Ubisoft reportedly cancelled its upcoming media hands-on sessions for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Media were meant to play the game next week in a closed NDA environment but reports claimed these sessions were put on hold indefinitely.
In a statement on X, Ubisoft also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on Steam when its new release date rolls around on 14 February 2025. The move to Steam is something new for Ubisoft. We also know that Star Wars Outlaws is headed to Steam now too. The game will launch on 21 November on the platform.
“We understand this decision will come as disappointing news, especially to those who’ve been waiting patiently for an Assassin’s Creed game inspired by Feudal Japan, but we sincerely believe this is in the best interest of the game, and
ultimately your experience as a player.”
While fans are blaming the recently announced Ghost of Yotei for the delay, it is unlikely Ubisoft delayed Shadows because of another Japan-based action game. There have been reports of issues regarding the Japanese government and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The country has reportedly now got involved in the game’s development to ensure it doesn’t mock or misrepresent historical moments.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now launch on 14 February 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC through Ubisoft Connect and Steam.
