Ubsioft has confirmed that it will take roughly 30-40 hours to beat the main campaign for its upcoming open-world stealth action game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This excludes potential side quests and missions which you can take on while exploring the massive world of feudal Japan.
According to Assassin’s Creed Shadows game director, Jonathan Dumont, in an interview with Genki, he confirmed that the main campaign should take players 30-40 hours to clear. Outside of that, completionists are looking at an average playtime of 80 hours to see and do almost everything the game has to offer. That roughly puts it in the same ballpark as Assassin’s Creed Origins in terms of length, though it falls behind the very lengthy campaigns for Odyssey and Valhalla.
In the interview, Dumont also reportedly told Genki that Ubisoft would look at adding New Game Plus to Assassin’s Creed Shadows after launch, as well as “other modes” based on player feedback.
Despite efforts by Ubisoft to keep the contents of the game’s story and any potential spoilers under wraps, the street date was broken in late February, nearly a month ahead of its official release. This led to a wave of spoilers appearing online. “The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game,” said Ubisoft at the time. “Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players. We kindly ask you not to spoil the experience for others.”
Trophy and achievement hunters will also be glad to know that all of Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ achievements can be obtained in a single playthrough, meaning there’s no need to run through the game multiple times or on higher difficulties. The inclusion of New Game Plus will be a nice touch to incentivise replays, though.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on 20 March 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
