“ASUS has always been about the incredible. And we are proud of our ability to offer brilliant solutions to people everywhere, from business users to creators, gamers and more,” noted ASUS co-CEO Samson Hu as he kicked off the launch event. ASUS has chosen to evolve the PC for the hybrid world, where everyone is always-on, always-mobile, and always moving across devices and contexts. The new Zenbook lineup has been created with that purpose in mind. This is a device for tech-savvy users who need ever-faster and more powerful devices. Boasting the latest 12th gen Intel CPU, the ZenBook aims to empower users with a blend of ultimate performance, innovative features, and high portability, in a thin and light form factor.
“12th Gen Intel Core processors and the Intel Evo platform deliver leadership performance, connectivity and PC innovations, enabling the verified experiences people want across various segments,” said Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Sales, Marketing and Communications Group, Intel. “Our joint platform effort with ASUS to partner on this innovation elevates the laptop experience with infinite possibilities”.
ASUS took to the event to announce redesigns on the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED, ZenBook 14X OLED Space Edition and ZenBook 14 OLED. These laptops are set to feature a refreshed ASUS Monogram that is based on the visual concept of the ASUS 30th anniversary emblem. According to ASUS, the modernized Monogram is based on everything that the ZenBook embraces – world-class innovation, an ascending spirit, user-centricity, and dedication to joyful experiences.
ZenBook 17 Fold OLED
ASUS says that it worked closely with Intel and BOE Technology Group to “unleash” the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED, the world’s first 17.3-inch foldable OLED laptop. This new design offers users two display sizes in one device – a 17.3-inch 2.5k touchscreen that folds in the middle to create two 12.5-inch 1920×1280 displays. The ZenBook 17 comes packed with a full-size ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad, the folding design aims to provide versatility in multiple situations. The ZenBook looks to replace your PC, laptop, tablet, and more.
The PANTONE Validated display also boasts 100% DCI-P3 gamut and is accompanied by Dolby Vision HDR, giving the OLED a lot of promise on paper. This display paired with the Dolby Atmos audio and a quad-speaker Harmon Kardon-certified sound system gives the ZenBook a lot of entertainment feasibility.
ASUS boasts the ZenBook’s next-generation smart capabilities, thanks to an HD IR camera that works together with Windows Hello and the new Intel Visual Sensing Controller chip that enables A-I-powered features, including user-presence detection, an integrated colour sensor for automatic adjustment of screen brightness and colour temperature. The 5MP webcam doesn’t sound like much in this day and age, but we will have to see how it holds up.
ZenBook 14X OLED Space Edition
This exclusive laptop was built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the ASUS P6300 laptop’s 600-day space mission and to represent ASUS’ “In Search of Incredible” brand.
The ZenBook 14X OLED Space Edition features a space-themed design and detailing, finished in Zero-G titanium colour. The exclusivity doesn’t just sit in the designs, with ASUS pairing a ZenVision 3.5-inch OLED companion display, mounted externally on the lid to show you customisable messages and animations.
The Space Edition complies with the ultra-tough US Space Systems Command Standard SMC-S-016A testing protocols, so it is theoretically capable of withstanding extreme temperatures (-24 to 61° C) when operational and vibrations from 20 – 2000 Hz.
This robust chassis houses Intel’s 12th gen i9 CPU, Intel Iris X GPU, 32Gb of RAM, and 4 PCIe SSDs. Paired with a 90 Hz OLED HDR PANTONE panel, the Space Edition seems to pack the necessary punch worthy of a laptop celebrating space exploration.
ZenBook 14 OLED
The ZenBook 14 OLED aims to be a powerful, sleek, and lightweight 14-inch laptop for those looking to prioritize portability. This 14-inch laptop packs the latest 12th Gen CPU, Intel Iris X GPU, and up to 16GB of RAM. The 75 Wh battery and Intel WiFI 6E, aiming to deliver a blend of performance and connectivity.
ASUS ExportBook B5 Series
The ASUS ExpertBook B5 is an ultralight laptop series that is available in both the traditional clamshell and 350-degree convertible forms. The new ExpertBook B5 and B5 Flip models feature 14-inch displays that complement the existing popular 13-inch B5 models.
The minimalist chassis crafted from pure aluminium and magnesium-alloy houses an i7 processor and Intel Iris X GPU, supported by 48GB of RAM, and Intel WiFi 6E. The B5 Flip’s party piece comes in the form of easily going from tent to tablet mode, for sharing content and presentation.
The new B5 series claims to offer all-day battery life and features some “cutting-edge” technologies to improve on-the-go work efficiency. Some of these features include AI noise cancellation, dual-SSD RAID support, and the ASUS NumberPad. Thanks to the built-in fingerprint sensor, optional face-login IR camera, and TPM 2.0 chip, the B5 series caters to users who prioritize their privacy.
ASUS ProArt Display
The ASUS ProArt Display is a 15.6-inch 4K UHD IPS display that includes Wacom EMR technology for compatibility with the bundled ProArt Pen. This 4K resolution display is purpose-built for professional creatives. Interestingly, ASUS stated that the display targets the specifications for DisplayHDR 400 certifications.
The equipped two kickstands allow the display to tilt for drawing and sketching, while the lower kickstand props it up to an “ideal” angle for use as a secondary display.
ASUS TUF Gaming F15 and F17
TUF Gaming F15 AND F17 laptops offer the 12th Generation i7 CPU from Intel, and up to an RTX 3070 laptop GPU with 140W max TGP. Gamers can make use of the Armoury Crate to fire up direct GPU mode, which reduces latency and improves performance by 5-10% on average. To match the performance, the laptops’ Arc Flow Fans have an updated 84-blade design. While the overall design is quieter, it manages to offer 13% more airflow than the last generation. ASUS has paired this laptop with a gaming-ready FHD 300Hz panel or QHD at 165Hz for more immersive experiences.
TUF Dash F15
Having originally released in 2021, the TUF Dash F15 has been updated and upgraded with the latest harder, while keeping the form factor of the chassis under 20mm.
This upgrade involves a 12th gen i7 CPU, and up to an RTX 3070 laptop GPU with MUX Switch. According to ASUS, the TUF Dash F15 is an exceptionally capable gaming machine in a thin, light chassis. That claim has, at least, been backed by the spec sheet. The TUF Dash 15 also boasts brand-new DDR5 RAM, running at 4800 MHz, which is capable of handling strenuous multitasking, while the ultrafast SSD slots enable high-speed storage on the go. For visuals, ASUS have opted to pair its laptop with a QHD 165Hz panel, while the Dash F15 supports USB Type-C Power Delivery up to 100W, enabling top-ups through a wide variety of compatible chargers and battery packs.
ASUS kicked this year off with an emphasis on portability, clearly focusing on its consumer’s habits and the trends of 2021. The update in hardware was to be expected, but the tech company clearly has a vision for its portable future.
