ASUS is expected to announce the ROG Ally 2 at Computex this month, but ahead of the official reveal, the device has leaked online. The images have come from the FCC listing and confirm pretty much everything there is to know about the upcoming handheld.
The listing confirms that there will be an “Xbox-themed” ROG Ally 2. This was rumoured to be in the works in March when details leaked regarding a partnership between Xbox and ASUS on a 2025 handheld. The black model seemingly includes an Xbox button, whereas the white model doesn’t.
In addition to the Xbox button, the black model also includes a better AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip with a 36W 8-Core chip compared to the white model’s 20W chip. The black model comes with 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The white model’s RAM is unconfirmed at this time.
It is interesting to see that the black Xbox version of the ROG Ally includes the Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, whereas the white version comes with the AMD Aeirith Plus chip. The white model is using a successor to the Van Gogh chip found in the original Steam Deck.
Both models ship with a 7-inch 120Hz display. The FCC listing claims the screens are full HD IPS panels. The one model includes a 2TB 2280 SSD, and the other a 1TB 2280 SSD. They both come with Wi-Fi 6E through a MediaTek chip.
From a design point of view, the ROG Ally 2 has seen quite a drastic change. The device now includes controller-like handles on both sides and is noticeably thicker across the back. Given its current specs, this thickness makes sense.
While the leaks provide a good look at the design and specs of the ROG Ally 2, we still don’t know what this Xbox button does. The white version includes the same button, but it isn’t Xbox branded. Perhaps it will act as an easy way to launch the Xbox app? Given the start differences in specs between the two handhelds, it will also be interesting to see what these are priced at. 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 2TB SSD don’t come cheap.
